The Internet

As much as the internet is a wonderful tool, it opens the door much destruction.
Cyber bullying, adult sites, forums enticing young children, are just a few ways in which your child can become a victim. In essence, the things that parents and guardians fear the most can now be brought into the home through the internet door way. It is for this reason that parents and guardians should try to get a handle on this technology; learn how to use it; and control it to your advantage.

Promote child safety online

Protecting children is a priority, and with the introduction of technology –specifically the internet- there is much easier access to them, even in the privacy of the home. However, with that same technology comes the various ways in which parents can promote child safety online and avoid destruction from entering the home.

Learn how to use the internet

One great way you can promote child safety online is to understand it. Become savvy with the ways of cyber space. Learn how to surf the web, understand its capabilities and learn from your child what is out there. Parents can avoid the majority of online concerns by not allowing free access to the internet. You may even consider not putting a computer in your child’s room, but rather in an area with heavy family traffic. If your child needs the computer for homework, invest in a pair of earphones to block out background noise. This way you will still be able to monitor what your child is doing and the sites he or she is visiting.
