Parenting is definitely a work in progress, which , in a sense, is a shame since the reality is that you are experimenting on your children. "Parenting" doesn't come with a manual. When I had my first child, I was excited and petrified at the same time. Suddenly, I was responsible for this other being. My whole life flashed before me, but worse than that, my son's did also. I was concerned about issues that were years ahead of me, and he was only two weeks at the time. What a nightmare.
Excerpt from Is Dari Bug Cute or am I Just His Mother?
I have fallen in love again. I never thought it possible, especially since I am very much in love with my husband. But whenever I look into the eyes of my six month old baby boy, my heart swoons; my throat tightens and my eyes well up. I am in love all over again.
This is an amazing love that I could never have imagined. My husband had warned me. He said only a parent can understand. So needless to say, I was unknowingly ignorant until our little boy was born. Actually, it was not as sudden as that, although it may have been, but I was unaware of it. Even when the nurse laid my newborn on my chest, I did not feel an immediate rush of emotion, but only in certain instances I would be conscious of this new sensation. I would be aware of it even during uncomplicated situations such as my little one sleeping. His long lashes resting against his soft, newborn skin and his dark curly hair damp with perspiration. His little hands clutching each other, as he faintly snored. He truly does not have to perform in order for me to marvel. So you can imagine my reaction to a toothless grin or a sudden outburst of babbling sentences.
